The Night Fairy by Laura Amy Schlitz
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
First, to say that the illustrations done by Angela Barrett are beautiful is an understatement. Looking at the detailed and soft illustrations, one feels like they are transported into Flory’s world, a world of fairies and the wonderful peculiarities of nature.
Laura Amy Schlitz really knows how to tell a story of growing up, and of friendship. Flory, literally from the time she is born, is put through trials not normally known to children. She must fend for herself, and, at the same time, learn how to work with the other creatures around her. In the end she learns how to live in her world, and has gained several friends and allies, all of an eclectic sort.
The telling of this story is very simple, but the straightforward way in which Schlitz tells it is very relatable, especially to the young readers learning similar lessons.
I recommend this book to those who are still learning how to live in the world, and those who enjoy a good dose of fairy life.
